Hiyah folks, Sarah here! Just thought I'd bring back this blog, and what better way to start it off than to address the reason why I left Tapastic.
Tapastic is a website where people can post comics in the form of "episodes," and it's where "subscribers" can tune in whenever you update your content. I started posting more recent content on there as a way of reaching an audience that I thought would enjoy our work. And I liked it! I enjoyed being able to respond to comments left by readers. It was neat having an open conversation with them, while also shadowing about as they talked amongst themselves in the comments. But that actually consumed a lot of my time, and it was always in the back of my mind. In a way I became "addicted" to checking for notifications from readers who liked or commented on my strips. Like Facebook. Yeesh...
There's also the fact that I'm not liking how enclosed Tapastic is becoming...
Although I did find an audience there, there is development happening on Tapastic that doesn't jive with me. It seems that they're going in the direction of a subscription service, but I don't like the idea of having things become exclusive (aka Tapastic's Support Program). It's sort of like Patreon, where you commit $_ per month, and you get access to things like sketches, development, and maybe early content. But I also don't like the thought of making content "exclusively" on Tapastic, especially if it means I'd be locking out folks who don't "pay" for access. Also I'm posting content there for free, and they're making money off of every post (there are ads at the bottom of each post). Ultimately I found that the benefits did not offset the stress I felt when I was posting my content there.
So I decided it was time to say goodbye to Tapastic.
I had been thinking about it for months, had been discussing it with Sozo, and decided that it was for the best. I'm slowly deleting my posted comics from Tapastic (all except the "last" post), and I will leave my account there inactive so as to not bait readers with any possibility of me re-posting work there. I want to make it clear that I'm no longer a part of the site, at least as a provider of content.
Now, if you've ventured from the realm of Tapastic, thank you for stopping by!
Thanks for reading the strip, and thanks for making my time on Tapastic fun! I'm glad that you enjoy the comic, so I hope you come on over to visit! I'll be here, working on comic strips about a girl, an owl, and all things nerdy. And if anything new comes up, it'll be posted right here on my blog.
